Biography (Short Length)

TRONA formed in early 2024 when Bill Fisher (bass, vocals) and Elton Cunniffe (synths) recruited Greg Turner (guitar, vocals) and Gregory Coates Piper (drums) to make psychedelic krautrock.

All four members of TRONA are veterans of San Francisco's rock underground. Cunniffe and Turner played in the Chantigs, Piper in the Burners (and currently Night Driver and Horsepucky), and Fisher in the Cubby Creatures (and currently Starry Skemes). Each released music in the '90s and '00s on Cunniffe's Rodent Records.

TRONA's sound blends krautrock, dub, postpunk, and garage psych.

Biography (Medium Length)

TRONA formed in early 2024 when Bill Fisher asked Elton Cunniffe if he knew anyone who wanted to make some psychedelic krautrock. Cunniffe suggested their mutual friend Greg Turner for his ability to play effects-laden guitar, and Fisher suggested their mutual friend Gregory Coates Piper for the drums. During the first session, Cunniffe was on synths and Fisher was on bass when they realized the sound of the band was coming together, and thus TRONA was born.

The members of TRONA are all veterans of the San Francisco rock underground. Elton Cunniffe and Greg Turner were both in the Chantigs. Gregory Coates Piper was in the Burners. Bill Fisher was in the Cubby Creatures and currently also plays bass in Starry Skemes. All of them put out records in the 90s and 00s with Rodent Records, Cunniffe's former record label.

TRONA rehearses and records at Light Rail Studios, which was founded and built by Elton Cunniffe. They leverage the trove of high-end analog gear at the studio while also experimenting with newer digital technologies. For example, during the early months of the band, Piper began to augment his vintage Rogers drum kit with electronic drum pads, allowing him to pursue his long standing interest in electronic music within the context of TRONA. To hear more of Piper's electronic music, please check out his other band Night Driver and his solo project, Horsepucky.

TRONA's sound blends krautrock, dub, postpunk, and garage psych.
